Your birth chart
Find your chart ruler
Find the traditional ruler of your rising sign, its placement and the planetary chains in your birth chart.
Use your recorded birth time to calculate the rising sign. An approximate or unknown time leaves the chart ruler unavailable.
Follow the rising sign to its planet
The chart ruler is the planetary ruler of the Ascendant sign. Taurus and Libra rising both lead to Venus. The result then shows the sign and house of Venus, where available.
Astrologers use this connection to extend the rising-sign reading. Venus in Gemini adds curiosity and exchange to the interpretation; Venus in Capricorn adds structure and commitment. The house supplies the topic in which those themes are read.
Dispositor chains follow the same rule
A dispositor is the planet that rules another planet's sign. Venus in Gemini leads to Mercury because Mercury rules Gemini. If Mercury is in Taurus, it leads back to Venus: the two planets form a loop called mutual reception by sign.
A chain can also end with a planet in its own sign. Mercury in Gemini leads back to itself. The result traces these connections without treating a final planet or a loop as a personality score.
Which rulership system is used?
We use traditional sign rulership: Mars for Scorpio, Saturn for Aquarius and Jupiter for Pisces. Modern associations with Pluto, Uranus and Neptune are separate.
A chart ruler does not by itself establish a dominant planet or provide a complete personal interpretation.
