Read a transit as a moving planet meeting a natal position
Your natal placements stay fixed at their birth-chart positions. The transiting planet moves through the zodiac. A contact appears when their separation meets an aspect angle, such as a conjunction or square.
For example, a natal Sun at 10° Aries and a transiting planet at 10° Cancer form an exact square. At 9° Cancer, the square has a 1° orb: the distance from the exact angle. These are illustrative positions.
Why one contact can have several dates
A planet can pass a natal degree, move back across it during apparent retrograde motion, then cross it again moving direct. Those are separate exact passes of the same contact. A selected date range can contain only part of that sequence.
What the dates describe
An exact contact is a calculated angle between a moving planet and a natal placement. The surrounding window uses a stated angular allowance, called an orb. These dates do not predict the timing or probability of a life event.
An unknown or approximate birth time leaves natal degrees unresolved. Possible windows preserve those ranges without guessing an exact contact time. You can also use the shared sky and date browser.
