What the chart is made of

A Human Design chart uses two moments. Personality is your birth. Design is about 88 days earlier, when the Sun stood 88 degrees before its birth position. The Sun, Earth, Moon, both lunar nodes and the eight planets are placed on a wheel of 64 gates for each moment.

When both gates of a channel are active, the channel is defined and so are the two centres it joins. Your type, authority and definition follow from which centres are defined and how they connect.

The five types

Generator
Defined Sacral. Strategy: to respond.
Manifesting Generator
Defined Sacral with a motor connected to the Throat. Strategy: to respond, then inform.
Manifestor
Open Sacral, with a motor connected to the Throat. Strategy: to inform.
Projector
Open Sacral and no motor to the Throat. Strategy: wait for the invitation.
Reflector
No defined centres. Strategy: wait a lunar cycle.
How Astriel calculates Human Design

Astriel uses the same tropical ephemeris as your birth chart and the true lunar node. Gates follow the standard wheel, with gate 41 starting at 2 degrees Aquarius, and each gate has six lines of 0.9375 degrees.

Human Design was published in 1987 and combines astrology, the I Ching, the Kabbalah tree and the chakra system. Treat it as a lens for reflection, not as a scientific measurement.

Comparing with another calculator

Check the birth date, local time and time zone first. A few minutes can move the Moon or an angle-sensitive line. Some calculators use the mean node instead of the true node, which can change the nodal gates and lines.
