Find your Lilith sign

Find your Black Moon Lilith sign using the mean lunar apogee. An uncertain birth time keeps every supported sign possibility.

Date of birth

Use the local birth date in the modern (Gregorian) calendar, from 1600 to today.

Time of birth

Local birth time. For 2:30 pm, enter 14:30.

If the end is at or before the start, the range ends the next day. Equal times cover a full day.

We check the whole period. The Ascendant and houses are left out.

We check the whole local day and show any possible sign changes. The Ascendant and houses are left out.

Placidus uses your birth time to calculate unequal houses. Whole Sign gives each sign one house. Both need an exact time.

The point this calculator locates

Black Moon Lilith refers to a calculated direction in the Moon's orbit. Astriel uses the mean apogee, the averaged direction of the orbit's farthest point from Earth.

The result gives its zodiac sign and, for an exact birth time, its degree. It is separate from your Moon sign, which locates the Moon itself.

Mean, true and other Lilith settings

The mean apogee smooths short-term changes in the lunar orbit. The osculating apogee, often called true Lilith, uses an ellipse fitted to the Moon's orbit at a particular moment.

An interpolated apogee uses another method. These settings can produce different degrees or signs. This calculator provides the mean setting only.

The asteroid named Lilith is a separate object. Its position is not calculated here.

Astrodienst's Swiss Ephemeris documentation, sections 2.2.1, 2.2.3 and 2.2.4, describes the apogee methods.

If your birth time is uncertain

Choose Unknown to check the local birth day, or Approximate to check a shorter interval. If the returned sign changes, the result keeps each possibility and its calculated time span.

An interval never produces a single exact degree. Near a boundary, compare the same birth details and method before treating a difference as meaningful.

How Astriel calculates the mean apogee

The calculation uses mean lunar elements evaluated in Terrestrial Time, an astronomical time scale. It projects the direction from the tilted lunar orbit onto the ecliptic, Earth's orbital plane.

The point uses the mean ecliptic of date, without nutation, the small oscillation of Earth's axis. Astriel's planetary positions use a different, apparent frame.

The corrected mean-apogee calculation is used by both supported house systems. Placidus is the default; choosing Whole Sign changes house boundaries, not the Lilith longitude. Saved comparisons cover 33 synthetic dates between 1900 and 2100. They support selected-date checks, not an accuracy guarantee for every birth time.

Reading Lilith within a birth chart

A Lilith sign alone cannot establish someone's sexuality, character or life history. Use symbolic interpretations as prompts for reflection, and leave room for experiences that do not fit them.

The full chart includes Lilith's calculated contacts and its house when an exact birth time supports houses. These provide context beyond a single sign.
