Find your Midheaven

Find your Midheaven sign and degree from your recorded birth time and place. Locate the cusp of your tenth Placidus house.

The Midheaven is also called the MC. This calculator needs an exact birth time; it leaves the angle unavailable for approximate or unknown times.

Date of birth

Use the local birth date in the modern (Gregorian) calendar, from 1600 to today.

Time of birth

Local birth time. For 2:30 pm, enter 14:30.

If the end is at or before the start, the range ends the next day. Equal times cover a full day.

We check the whole period. The Ascendant and houses are left out.

We check the whole local day and show any possible sign changes. The Ascendant and houses are left out.

Placidus uses your birth time to calculate unequal houses. Whole Sign gives each sign one house. Both need an exact time.

The Midheaven and the tenth house

The Midheaven, or MC, is the starting cusp of the tenth house in Placidus, Astriel's default system. The house extends from that degree to the eleventh cusp.

A planet inside the tenth house is not automatically conjunct the MC. A conjunction requires a measured distance within the stated orb.

If you explicitly choose Whole Sign, its tenth house is a different construction and can have a different sign from the MC.

Read public direction through its sign and ruler

Astrologers associate the Midheaven with public standing and vocation. Its sign describes a style: Gemini emphasizes communication and exchange; Capricorn emphasizes structure and sustained responsibility. These themes can apply to many kinds of work.

The ruling planet adds context. A Gemini Midheaven leads to Mercury, whose sign and house describe another part of the reading. A measured conjunction to the Midheaven adds a different connection; a planet farther into the tenth Placidus house is not automatically conjunct it.

The result links to a sign guide and lists computed Midheaven aspects separately. These factors do not select a profession or predict success.

How the angle is defined

The Midheaven is the upper intersection of the ecliptic and the local meridian. It is distinct from the zenith, the point directly overhead.

Astrodienst's introduction to the house system explains the meridian and the chart angles.

If your birth time is uncertain

Check the time on your birth record. An approximate or unknown time produces no Midheaven result here; we do not choose a replacement time.

You can still use the birth-chart calculator for supported planetary positions and possible signs. Near a sign boundary, the accuracy of your recorded time matters.
