Natal chart reference
Mercury conjunct Venus
Mercury conjunct Venus connects thinking and expression with values and taste in astrological interpretation. Choosing words can become part of expressing what matters. The signs show how reasoning and preference combine, including conjunctions across a sign boundary.

Find the aspects in my chartWords carry a preference
Mercury organizes information and gives it language. Venus evaluates what is appealing or worth choosing. A conjunction joins those functions, so an explanation can also express a value judgment.
A worked chart example
Mercury at 29° Pisces and Venus at 2° Aries form a conjunction with a 3° orb. Mercury in Pisces adds imaginative, associative thinking; Venus in Aries favors a direct personal choice. The planets connect by degree while retaining different styles.
Compare both planets in Virgo. Precision and usefulness would shape both the explanation and the preference. The same conjunction could be read through careful editing or choosing between practical designs, depending on the house topics.
Check the angle before interpreting it
Mercury at 29 degrees Pisces and Venus at 2 degrees Aries are 3 degrees apart. The conjunction orb is 3 degrees, even though the planets occupy different signs.
Work through the orb
These are synthetic longitudes used to explain the calculation. Find their difference around the 360-degree zodiac, then take the shorter separation.
The smaller separation here is 3 degrees. Its distance from 0 degrees gives the 3-degree orb.
Astriel uses the smaller of the two bodies' natal major-aspect limits. Mercury and Venus each use 6 degrees, so the pair's limit is 6 degrees.
Compare all natal orb limitsWhy the signs are not enough
Two planets in the same sign are not necessarily conjunct. Mercury at 1 degree Aries and Venus at 15 degrees Aries are 14 degrees apart, outside this pair's 6-degree limit.
Use the calculated aspect row instead of inferring an angle from the sign names.
Read the contact with its chart context
The signs describe how thinking and preference operate. Houses identify their subjects: Mercury in the 3rd concerns everyday learning; Venus in the 5th concerns creative pleasure. Read only the houses supported by the birth-time result.
Other contacts can suggest a different theme. One aspect cannot establish a person's character, relationship behavior or ability.

Unknown birth time and conditional contacts
Use the orb range and status printed beside the calculated aspect. A conditional contact meets the rule for only part of the possible birth-time interval.
A contact that holds throughout the interval can still have a changing orb. Do not choose a birth time because an interpretation sounds familiar.
Read the birth-time methodDoes this mean the two planets share a sign?
No. A conjunction measures longitude separation. Planets near either side of a sign boundary can still be close enough. Read the signs and the aspect as separate pieces of information.
Read applying and separating examplesIs this a relationship compatibility result?
No. This page describes two placements in one birth chart. Synastry compares placements from two different charts and needs both sets of birth details.
Neither a natal contact nor a chart comparison establishes another person's feelings, consent or relationship intentions.

Cafe Astrology's Mercury-Venus reference informs the brief conventional communication and preference themes. Worked examples are original syntheses of planetary functions and major-aspect meanings in Astriel's astrology reference, Parts II and IV.
The geometry follows Astriel's selected natal rules. Symbolic interpretation is not evidence of a personality trait, artistic talent or a future event.
