Natal chart reference
Sun opposite Mars
Sun opposite Mars describes a contrast between the direction someone wants to develop and an impulse to act or assert a position. Attention can move between the purpose and the immediate challenge. Both functions belong to the same natal chart.

Find the aspects in my chartA personal direction and an immediate impulse need separate attention
A challenge can absorb effort that was intended for a different aim. Avoiding every challenge can also leave an important purpose undefended. The opposition invites a distinction between responding because something matters and responding because it provokes a reaction. Another person need not represent Mars or cause the tension.
Read the signs together
The Sun at 12° Libra and Mars at 14° Aries are 178° apart. Libra gives the Sun attention to shared authorship; Aries gives Mars an independent response. A collaborator could want a jointly designed exhibition while feeling an urge to settle each disputed detail alone.
The desire to keep work moving and the commitment to shared decisions have different demands. Deciding which choices require agreement can give both a practical place. The angle does not establish rivalry, danger or a relationship outcome.
Check the measured angle
The example uses longitudes 192° and 14°. Their shorter separation is 178°, giving an orb of 2° from the exact 180° angle.
Synthetic positions for teaching, not a recorded birth chart.
Astriel uses the smaller of the two bodies' major-aspect limits: 8° for the Sun and 6° for Mars. A 6° orb is included; a larger orb is excluded. Sign names alone cannot establish the contact.
Compare the natal orb rulesUse the houses to name the subject
Across calculated Placidus houses 1 and 7, personal direction meets the work of partnership. Across houses 4 and 10, private priorities meet public action. Opposite signs alone cannot establish the house axis.
Other aspects can support or complicate the same topic. A Sun-Mars trine can coexist with a Sun-Saturn square. Neither contact removes the other.

Birth-time uncertainty and motion
A conditional aspect meets the selected limit for only part of the possible birth-time interval. Keep the orb range and status shown in your result.
Applying means the orb is decreasing; separating means it is increasing. Both bodies' calculated motion matters, including Mars's retrograde motion. A still diagram cannot supply that direction.
How uncertain times are handledA natal aspect is different from a Mars transit
This guide compares positions in one birth chart. A Mars transit compares moving Mars with a saved natal position and needs a chosen date.
