A planet at 10° Aries and another at 12° Capricorn have a smaller separation of 88°. Their square orb is 2° from the exact 90° angle.
At 1° Aries and 29° Capricorn, the smaller separation is 62°. The 28° orb is outside Astriel's 5° synastry square limit.
That second example is 2° from a sextile, which falls within Astriel's limit for that contact. The degrees can describe a different aspect from the one suggested by the sign names.
