Natal chart reference
Moon opposite Venus
Moon opposite Venus describes a contrast between emotional needs and personal preference. Someone may seek reassurance in one kind of arrangement while enjoying a different kind of freedom or expression. The opposition makes those two positions easier to distinguish.

Find the aspects in my chartBelonging and personal preference can pull in different directions
Attention can move between satisfying the Moon’s need for comfort and following Venus’s preference. Both belong to the same person in a natal chart. The aspect does not assign one end to a partner or prove that someone else causes the tension.
A worked chart example
The Moon at 7° Libra and Venus at 10° Aries are 177° apart. Libra emphasizes mutual consideration in the lunar response; Aries gives Venus a preference for direct, independent choice. Wanting agreement on plans while also wanting to decide spontaneously illustrates the contrast.
Compare this with the square: a square emphasizes approaches that interfere, while an opposition makes contrasting positions explicit. Neither is a verdict about relationship success. The signs and houses make the symbolic disagreement specific.
Check the measured angle
7 degrees Libra is longitude 187; 10 degrees Aries is longitude 10. Their smaller separation is 177 degrees, giving an opposition orb of 3 degrees.
Work through the orb
These synthetic positions explain the arithmetic; they are not a recorded birth chart. Measure the shorter distance around the 360-degree zodiac.
The smaller separation is 177 degrees. Its difference from 180 degrees gives an orb of 3 degrees.
Astriel uses the smaller of the two bodies' natal major-aspect limits. The Moon uses 8 degrees and Venus uses 6 degrees, so this pair uses 6 degrees.
Compare natal orb limitsCheck the degrees as well as the signs
Use the shorter distance around the zodiac. A directed difference of 183 degrees also becomes 177 degrees, with the same 3-degree opposition orb.
The diagram shows longitude separation only. Planetary latitude and distance from Earth are separate measurements.
Keep the rest of the chart in view
The Moon describes emotional needs and familiar responses; Venus describes values, enjoyment and affection. Signs describe the style of each function. Houses identify the topics where they operate.
If a Placidus calculation places the example’s Libra Moon in the 7th house and Aries Venus in the 1st, those are the house topics to combine. Mutual consideration and personal preference become a relationship-and-self comparison. These are two functions within one person’s chart; the Moon is not a stand-in for a particular partner.

Unknown birth time and conditional contacts
Use the orb range and status in the calculated result. A conditional contact meets the selected rule for only part of the possible birth-time interval.
A contact can hold throughout that interval while its orb changes. Keep the uncertainty instead of choosing a birth time to fit an interpretation.
Read the birth-time methodApplying and separating
Applying means that the orb is decreasing at the calculated instant. Separating means that it is increasing. The Moon’s motion and Venus’s motion both matter; Venus can also be retrograde.
The angle alone cannot identify that direction. Use the calculated motion label when the birth time supports one.
Compare motion examplesDoes this describe chemistry with someone else?
No. A natal Moon-Venus contact compares two positions in one person's chart. Synastry compares two charts and requires both sets of birth details.
A natal contact does not establish compatibility, attachment history or what another person feels. Those questions require information about the people and their actual relationship.

Interpretive themes draw on Astriel’s astrology reference, Part II (Moon and Venus) and Part IV (major aspects and the Moon–Venus pair). Worked scenarios and numerical examples are original teaching material.
We use the distinction between emotional needs and relating. Source claims about popularity, artistic ability or a person’s family history are not treated as established facts. These angles do not scientifically determine personality.
