Sun and Moon aspects

The Sun-Moon relationship compares personal direction with emotional needs in astrological interpretation. Begin with the calculated angle, then read the other chart factors.

Find the aspects in my chart

Choose the calculated contact

The Moon's changing longitude relative to the Sun allows all five major angles. A sign name alone does not establish an aspect.

If your chart lists no major Sun-Moon contact

The separation can fall outside the selected major-aspect orbs. Astriel also checks semisextile and quincunx, which have separate 2° limits.

A missing major contact does not imply a missing capacity or an incomplete chart.

Read it with the rest of the chart

The Sun describes purpose and self-expression in astrology; the Moon describes emotional needs and habitual responses. Their signs describe how each function operates. The aspect describes how they interact.

Houses add the topics involved. A Sun-Moon opposition across the 4th and 10th houses connects private home life with public responsibility. Across the 2nd and 8th, the same angle connects personal resources with shared commitments.

Other contacts can change the reading. A Moon trine Sun can coexist with a Moon square Saturn, bringing ease in one relationship between planets and friction in another.

Uncertain time and conditional aspects

With an uncertain birth time, use the orb range and status printed in the result. A contact that holds for only part of the period remains conditional.

Do not select a birth time because the interpretation sounds familiar. An exact-time input also cannot verify the accuracy of the original birth record.

Applying, separating and exact

Applying means the orb is decreasing at the calculated instant; separating means it is increasing. The angle or sign names alone cannot determine this.

Astriel's exact label uses a one-arcsecond numerical threshold. It is not a claim of one-arcsecond astronomical accuracy.

Natal, synastry and transit are different comparisons

This guide compares the Sun and Moon in one birth chart. Synastry compares factors belonging to two people. A transit compares a moving body with a natal position.

The geometry shares an angle name, but the context and allowed orb can differ.
