Two-chart reference

Sun opposite Moon in synastry

A Sun-Moon opposition connects positions near 180° apart. Its astrological theme is a visible contrast between one person's direction and the other's emotional rhythm.

180° exact angle · 6° maximum synastry orb in Astriel

Compare two birth charts

Keep each person's placement clear

Person A is the first person entered in the calculator. Person B is the second. Each contact compares one placement from each chart.

A's Sun opposite B's Moon

A's Sun carries the personal-direction theme. B's Moon carries the emotional-needs theme in this contact.

For example

For example, A's Sun in Aries opposite B's Moon in Libra connects independent action with emotional ease through consultation. A wants to decide quickly; B wants to discuss the effect on both people. The shared topic is how individual choice fits within a relationship.

A's Moon opposite B's Sun

B's Sun carries the personal-direction theme. A's Moon carries the emotional-needs theme. Keep these owners with the contact when comparing other rows.

For example

With A's Moon in Cancer opposite B's Sun in Capricorn, the example concerns care and responsibility. B prioritizes completing a commitment while A wants time together at home. Both can care about security while giving different needs priority in that moment.

If both directions appear

A's Sun with B's Moon and A's Moon with B's Sun are separate contacts. Each has its own orb and birth-time certainty.

Read both with their original labels. Two contacts do not establish a stronger bond.

Two priorities on the same axis

Opposite signs organize a shared topic around different priorities. The Sun person can express a quality that the Moon person notices through contrast. The Moon person can expose a need that the Sun person has overlooked. This can be read as complementarity or recurring disagreement; the angle alone cannot establish which expression occurs.

Read this beside the other contacts

An opposition works across a sign axis when the contact is in sign. A square brings a different form of tension between the signs involved. Neither angle measures attraction. Check other contacts for how the two people communicate about the contrast rather than interpreting polarity as a guaranteed bond.

The calculator groups contacts by birth-time certainty, then orders each group by the smallest possible orb. That order is geometric.

Keep the limits of the interpretation clear

An opposition does not prove attraction, balance or an inevitable bond. Two opposing preferences do not make one person responsible for completing the other.

Use your experience to judge the example. Birth details and chart contacts cannot establish consent, feelings or a future outcome.

Check the angle and birth-time range

The orb is the distance from the exact 180° angle. Astriel's synastry opposition rule includes orbs up to 6°.

Compare the degrees

  • Sun at 10° Aries and Moon at 12° Libra: the smaller separation is 178°, a 2° orb.
  • Sun at 10° Aries and Moon at 16° Libra: the smaller separation is 174°, exactly at the 6° limit.
  • Sun at 10° Aries and Moon at 17° Libra: the smaller separation is 173°, outside the 6° limit.

These are synthetic positions. The two signs alone cannot establish a contact; the degrees matter.

Read a conditional contact

An uncertain birth time can produce an orb range. A conditional contact fits the rule during only part of that range.

A contact within the limit throughout the available range can still have an uncertain exact orb. Neither status measures the likelihood of a relationship outcome.

Separate synastry, natal and composite charts

This guide compares two birth charts. A natal aspect belongs to one chart, while a composite uses calculated midpoints between two charts.

Interpretations draw on the owner-supplied astrology reference, Part VI's synastry principles and the synastry synthesis protocol. Examples are original. Angles and orb limits follow Astriel's relationship calculation rules.

Symbolic interpretation is not scientific evidence about a relationship. The people labels identify chart factors; either person can initiate plans or express needs.
