Two-chart reference

Sun trine Moon in synastry

A Sun-Moon trine connects positions near 120° apart. Astrologers associate it with an easy fit between what one person wants to express and what feels natural to the other.

Compare two birth charts

Keep each person's placement clear

Person A is the first person entered in the calculator. Person B is the second. Each contact compares one placement from each chart.

A's Sun trine B's Moon

A's Sun carries the personal-direction theme. B's Moon carries the emotional-needs theme in this contact.

For example

For example, A's Sun in Aries trine B's Moon in Leo connects initiative with an expressive emotional style. A starts a creative project and B responds with visible enthusiasm. Both placements use fire symbolism, so the example emphasizes action and encouragement.

A's Moon trine B's Sun

B's Sun carries the personal-direction theme. A's Moon carries the emotional-needs theme. Keep these owners with the contact when comparing other rows.

For example

With A's Moon in Virgo trine B's Sun in Taurus, support can look quieter. B's focus on producing something dependable connects with A's attention to practical improvements. Here the earth-sign example concerns usefulness and continuity rather than excitement.

If both directions appear

A's Sun with B's Moon and A's Moon with B's Sun are separate contacts. Each has its own orb and birth-time certainty.

Read both with their original labels. Two contacts do not establish a stronger bond.

Familiarity between purpose and emotional response

The Sun person's choices can feel recognizable to the Moon person. The Moon person's responses can give the Sun person a sense of support without much explanation. That is the traditional ease theme of the trine. Its limitation is that familiar assumptions can continue without either person checking whether they still fit.

Read this beside the other contacts

A trine describes one channel of ease. It can coexist with a Moon-Saturn contact that introduces duty or restraint. Read the separate planetary functions before deciding how the themes relate; counting easy and difficult contacts cannot produce a reliable relationship score.

The calculator groups contacts by birth-time certainty, then orders each group by the smallest possible orb. That order is geometric.

Keep the limits of the interpretation clear

Ease is an interpretive theme, not evidence of consent or satisfaction. A trine cannot tell you whether someone is happy with an arrangement they have not discussed.

Use your experience to judge the example. Birth details and chart contacts cannot establish consent, feelings or a future outcome.

Check the angle and birth-time range

The orb is the distance from the exact 120° angle. Astriel's synastry trine rule includes orbs up to 5°.

Compare the degrees

  • Sun at 10° Aries and Moon at 12° Leo: 122° apart, a 2° orb.
  • Sun at 10° Aries and Moon at 15° Leo: 125° apart, exactly at the 5° limit.
  • Sun at 10° Aries and Moon at 16° Leo: 126° apart, outside the 5° limit.

These are synthetic positions. The two signs alone cannot establish a contact; the degrees matter.

Read a conditional contact

An uncertain birth time can produce an orb range. A conditional contact fits the rule during only part of that range.

A contact within the limit throughout the available range can still have an uncertain exact orb. Neither status measures the likelihood of a relationship outcome.

Separate synastry, natal and composite charts

This guide compares two birth charts. A natal aspect belongs to one chart, while a composite uses calculated midpoints between two charts.

Interpretations draw on the owner-supplied astrology reference, Part VI's synastry principles and the synastry synthesis protocol. Examples are original. Angles and orb limits follow Astriel's relationship calculation rules.

Symbolic interpretation is not scientific evidence about a relationship. The people labels identify chart factors; either person can initiate plans or express needs.
