Yesod: foundation

Yesod names foundation. Its place immediately above Malkhut supports a reading concerned with connection and transmission into a concrete setting.

Connecting intention with expression

A foundation can be understood through what it supports. The comparison with Malkhut separates the means by which something is conveyed from its visible expression.

Read alongside Malkhut: kingdom.

Original teaching analogy

An everyday example

A family agrees to share tasks and establishes a regular time to coordinate them. In this original analogy, the dependable connection is the Yesod theme. The meals prepared and tasks completed are the Malkhut theme. The arrangement has to work in practice.

The Moon correspondence

The Moon is the planetary correspondence. Reading a natal Moon through Yesod adds another symbolic vocabulary to the same placement; it does not confirm a second independent pattern.

This association comes from Mathers's 1887 table, introduction section 53.

Context and sources

The sefirot belong to Jewish Kabbalah. Chabad's account of the ten sefirot explains the names and counting variants; its Sefirot chapter explains the religious context. The planetary association used here is a later Hermetic layer.

The everyday example is an Astriel analogy, not a traditional quotation. Reviewed 20 September 2026.
